IRON DUKE entering Portsmouth dominates the centre forground of this painting; QUEEN ELIZABETH berthing alongside to the left, and over on the right and up towards Haslar Creek is VICTORY. All the usual Wood ingredients from the pink morning sky, the dockyard tug chugging up with its tow of ammunition lighters, the steam pinnace keeping station under IRON DUKE’s port bridge wing; to the old barge with her red sails keeping well out of the fairway over on the right. All 3 warships are wearing the St George Crosses of flag officers.
